EVERYTHING IS BIG IN TEXAS

8/22/02- Last week I followed the yellow brick road straight home for some much needed R&R. After 10 weeks on the road, I decided to take a break that was long overdue. Now that I have rested up I am heading out West to see if I can strike it rich in the oil fields of Texas at the Permian Basin Open.

I flew out on Southwest Airlines to the oasis in the desert that is Midland. After landing at the airport, I hightailed it to the Wall Street Grill for dinner. Everything is big in Texas so the saying goes, and that includes the food. Big salads, big steaks, lots of bread and big glasses of iced tea. Just brings me back to my college days at Lamar University in Beaumont. But unfortunately, not only is the food big, so is the sun and heat. They are expecting triple digit temperatures this week so I'll be drinking as many of those iced teas I can get my hands on.

I've had some success here in the Lone Star state and the fond memories of making a 35 footer on the last hole to come in third at this tournament are rushing back to me. Just like President George W. Bush hunted oil here in Midland, I'm hunting for some oil of my own, green oil. I only hope that trophy looks like an oil rig, a real gusher.
